FIRE-FIGHTING FACILITIES.
LAYING OF WATER MAINS.
Tho Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening the Mayor, Mr. E. 11. Potter, presiding. There were also present Messrs. \V. Woolley, J. Smith, D. C. Eraser, W. 0. Langc, I'. McK. Morrison, F. Morris, J. M. .Melville, L. Joll, S. Newcoinb and A. M. 13ryden.
Tho Mayor stated that the water mains in the district were considered satisfactory for fire-fighting purposes. Four-inch mains were being laid on both footpaths of secondary streets to cope with fires find to prevent the necessity of diutriiiT up the carriageways to carry out, repairs.
The committee appointed to select positions for .street, lights in Mount Eden Road reported that the lamps had been placed equal distances apart irrespective of whether they were near street intersections. The. committee had had the lamps replaced in suitable positions and the alterations would he to the borough's advantage.
