WAR HISTORY DISCLOSURE.
TURKS' REFUSAL OF £2,000,000.

The latest volume of the official history of th- war discloses that Major-General Sir Charles Townshend, the defender of Kut, during the campaign in Mesopotamia,, 011 authority of the War Office, offered the Turkish commander £1,000,000 and also the surrender of his guns if the members of the Kut garrison wero allowed their freedom on parole. The Turks declined this offer, and also a later one of £2,000,000.
Shortly afterwards hunger compelled the unconditional surrender of the garrison.
