SUCCESS OF THE TRIALS.
COMPANY AND COMPETITION.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. {Reed. 9 D.m.) LONDON. Dec. 16. hundred prominent persons, including the engineering superintendents of all the leading shipping companies, wade a cruise aboard the new steamer Aorangi, which is destined for the Syd-ney-Auckland-Vancouver service.
Speaking at the luncheon Sir Alexander Fairfield said tho most exhaustive trials had proved thoroughly successful, and the vessel had maintained 18 knots sn hour for 60 hours. The Aorangi's arrival in Australia would mark the jubilee of the company. The Union Steam Ship Company was in competition in Australia and Canada with Governments who admitted th'at their ships did not pay and admitted they taxed the public in order to compensate for their losses.
"We find the only way to compete is lo give the best service," ho said.
Other speakers declared that the Aorangi was far ahead of other ships in the Australian trade for steadiness.
