WAITOMO POWER LOAN.
REDUCED TO £70,000.
AN AMENDED PROGRAMME.
[BY TEI.EGRAPU. —OWX CORRESPONDENT. ] TE KUITI, Wednesday. The Waitomo Power Boarc to-day resolved to raise a loan of £70,000 instead of tho £90,000 previously d< cided upon. The alteration in tho amount is duo to a fear that tho ratepayers, alarmed by tho largo amount, might reject the proposal when tho poll is taken. The £70,000 includes £36,500 for the lines covered by guarantees, tho substation, and the change over of Te Kuiti; £10,000 for extensions of lines; £13,500 for tlm To Kuiti plant and reticulation; £5000 for offices, transport, plant, preliminary expenses, etc. ; and £5000 for advances to consumers. The engineers, Messrs. Yickerman and Lancaster, expressed themselves as of opinion that an active campaign would result in the carrying of the whole amount of ±'90,000. Air. Lancaster emphasised tho importance of making it clear to the ratepayers that only those lines for which guarantees were forthcoming would be erected. The date for the poll was left in the hands of tlia chairman and secretary.
