EXPLANATION WANTED.
M.P. AMP COUNTY COUNCIL. LOAN MONEY TOWARD BRIDGE. fBV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] MORRINSVILLE. Wedneeday. At the last meeting of the Piako County Council, the chairman, Mr. F. W. Walters, stated that in tho lii.t of benefits to the electorate forwarded to the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., was an item which credited tho member with having obtained a grant and a provision for the Piako County Council to raise a loan without taking a poll of its ratepayers toward tho re-erection of the bridge over tho Waihou River at To Aroha This made it appear as if the Piako Comity Council had been working in an unde hand manner, said Mr. Walters, as a poll of ratepayers had turned the proposal down. There was either a mistake or someone was working without the sanction of the council. In justice to themselves, they should, ask Mr. Macmillan for an explanation of who authorised him to make application for the provision staled. If Mr. Macmillan had asked for a commission to form an equitable rating area, it would have been more to the point. A motion on the lines suggested by tho chairman was proposed by Mr. Stark, seconded by Mr. Lowry, and carried.
