THE OPENING RANGE. FURTHER SLIGHT DECLINE. [BY TELEGRArjC.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] TIMARU, Wednesday. Tho first wool salo of tho season at Timaru opened here this evening with a full bench of buyers. The lop price was 34Jd for eight bales of super halfbred. Prices were down 3d on the first Christchurch salo and id down on the recent Wellington salo. Tho following is tho prices up to midnight Medium Merino, 27d to 30|d; low Merino, 25d to 26^d; super halfbrod, 29d to 343 d; halfbred, 27d to 29d; medium halfbred, 23d to 26£ d; first halfbred pieces, 21J.d to 27d; second pieces, 19d to 21d; first Corrjodale hoggets, 28d to 33d; medium Orriedale hoggets. 25d to 27jd ; super three-quarterbred, 2Sd to 27^d; three-qua:rtorbrod, 22d to ; medium three-quarterbrod, 20d to 21 id; low throe-quarterbred, 19d to 20^d; first pieceu, 17d to 20d; second pieces, 15^cl to 16id; three-quarter hoggets, 23|d to 26id; dead wool, first 20Jk1 to 26id, second lOd to 20|d; halfbred bellies, to 26d; crossbred bellies, 16d to 17£ d ; black, 15d to 17|d; fine crutchings, 16id to 20Jd; coarse crutchings, 13d to Jsd ; halfbred locks, up to 141 d; crossbred locks, lid to 13d; stained pieces, up to 13d. SALES IN SYDNEY. COMPETITION STILL KEEN. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Dec. 17. At tho wool sales yosterday there was keen competition for all lines, excepting super-Merinos, prices for which were 7£ per cent, lower. Good to average Merinos and crossbreds realised full lato rates. Greasy Merino made to and bellies 34d, These are records for Sydney.
