GERMAN CABINET.

PENDING RESIGNATION.

BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK.

Heufer. BERLIN. Dec. 11. The German Cabinet will resign at the beginning of next week.

BASE AT SINGAPORE.

DETAILS OF EXPENDITURE. DOMINIONS' CONTRIBUTION. A. and N.Z.—Eeuter. LONDON. Dec. 11. In the House of Commons to-dav Sir Newton Moore, Conservative member for Richmond, asked what amount had been expended on plans for enlarging the Singapore base; what amount was necessary to complete the scheme; and whether it was contemplated that N"\ w Zealand and Australia should contribute?

Mr. W. C. Bridgeman, First Lord of the Admiralty, replied that £90,500 had been expended to date. The original estimate totalled £11,000,000, to be spread over nine years.

The Minister recalled that New Zealand and Australia had expressed their willingness to contribute toward the cost of the works before the plans were suspended. While their contributions would still be welcome, it would be necessary for their Governments to review the matter in the light of their present financial commitments for naval defence. It would, therefore, be premature to forecast the Dominions' decision.

The naval correspondent of the Daily News, writing regarding the details of the expenditure on the Singaporo base, states that, the wharves, basins, railways and roads will cost £5.100,000, graving docks £1,420,000, workshops and storehouses £1,730,000, magaaines £1,000,000, and contingencies £1,200.000.
