NEW COUNTY ENGINEER.
MARLBOROUGH'S CHOICE. YOUNG MAN'S SUCCESS. [Bf TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] BLENHEIM. Friday. Tho Marlborough County Council unanimously selected Mr. Basil Hundleby as its engineer, at a salary of £500 per annum. There were 16 applicants.
Mr. Hundleby, who is only 24 years of ago, comes from the Gisborno district, his mother residing at Te Karaka. He was educated at the Gisborne High School and in 1915 won a junior national scholarship. In 1916 he secured a senior free place, and passed the Public Service entrance examination. He matriculated in 1918, and in 1919 passed the engineering preliminary examination. After leaving school ho was with Messrs. Grant and Cooke, and at present is employed by Messrs. Vickerman and Lancaster, of Wellington. The Marlborough County is one of the largest in New Zealand.
