PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS. «
DIAMOND JUBILEE NEXT YEAR.
The report of a sub-committee appointed to report on methods for stimulating interest in the workings of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, particularly in connection with the spring show, was presented yesterday to a meeting of the general committee. The president, Mr. S. Hodge, presided.
The report recommended that certain improvements should bo carried out to the cattle pavilions, and that better office accommodation be provided for the secretary and staff at the showgrounds. It also considered that the Campbell Park trustees should be asked to renew the lease of the showgrounds so that the association might erect permanent sheep and pig pens. Recommendations were also made concerning the stock, hunting and jumping competitions with a view to making them moro popular. The revision of entry fees for the spring show, with a view to reductions, was another recommendation.
The report also considered that a managing secretary bo appointed for the association, and that Mr. A. D. Stanley, the present secretary, bo offered the position, and that a female office assistant bo appointed. Special motor-car displays were also suggested, while other attractions recommended were bullock teams at work, sheep-dog trials, special riding ' events, and wool classing competitions. The namo of the 1925 spring show was recommended as the " Diamond Jubileo Show.''
Other recommendations were:—That hot water be provided free on show days for visitors; that a conference ho arranged among the various agricultural and pastoral associations and the trotting clubs to enable the Auckland Association to arrange its 1925 spring show dates somewhere between the first and the 20th of November so as to fit in with the show dates of the other associations and with the trotting club fixtures; that an effort be made to have a public half holiday declared for a mid-week day so that the show could be held as a 'mid-week fixture; that arrangements be made to hoid at the spring show classes for home industries, a poultry show, a kennel nlub show, and a horticultural show; that the railway authorities be asked to provide improved transport accommodation for show stock; that arrangements be made with the wireless companies to install " loud speakers " at the judging rinc to broadcast the results. b b The report was adopted. A vote of thanks to the sub-committee with special(reference to the chairman; Mi. J. i. Kalaugher, was passed.
