UNPAID INCOME TAX.
AMUSING EXPLANATION.
A city inc.iino tax collector stated at the London Mansion House Court lately, when prosecuting m a case of non-pay-ment, that a large number of people thought that a post office- money order was a receipt for the payment of income tax.
The defaulter, producing a money order for £1 12s Bd, said to the Lord Mayor: " Hero's tho receipt, my Lord." (.Laughter.)
The Lord Mayor: But that is the money order for the "amount claimed. Why did you not send it on ? Defendant: 1 have never received one of these before, and 1 thought when I paid the Tost Office the money and got this that 1 was all right, and have not troubled any further. Ho agreed to hand the money order to ttic collector, and all ended happily.
