ILL-TREATING A CAT.
PIGEON FANCIER'S REVENGE.
FINE OF £2 IMPOSED.
Cruelty to a neighbour's cat resulted in the appearance at the Police Court yesterday before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., of Frederick Brett, a resident of Parnell.
Sergeant Rowell produced the splintered handle of a broom which he said defendant had broken over the cat. Defendant apparently attributed the mutilation of some pet pigeons to the eat, and wished to keep the animal away. This sergeant said that the animal had been terribly injured, and had lived for a day before' it was mercifully destroyed. Defendant pleaded that he had become desperate when tho cat periodically slaughtered his pigeons. He bad complained to the owner of the cat, and she had offered to destroy the animal and replace the birds. This had not been done. "I came home one afternoon, and I saw that cat jump out of my window." .-aid defendant. "I goes inside, and there's me dinner scattered all over the
i room, and a glass was broke. I rushes I outside mad with rage and hits the cat." The magistrate said that he would <me ! consideration to the fact that defendant ] had been in a temper. Ho had. howi ever, no right to treat the cat in that j way. A fine of £2 was imposed.
