ST. CUTHBERT'S COLLEGE.
UP-TO-DATE BUILDING.
OPENING IN FEBRUARY.
Details ol: the new St. Cuthbert's College, at Epsom, were given by Mr. J. Robertson, chairman of the Board of Directors, in addressing those who attended the prize-giving ceremony last evening. The new college would be opened next term, said Mr. Robertson, upon one of the finest sites that could have been procured anywhere in Auckland. Situated at tho rear of Sir John Logan Campbell's statue, tho college grounds occupied an area of 15 acres, which would give ample space for tennis lawns, basket ball and cricket grounds. Tho main building, in addition to tho staff rooms, contained 18 class rooms, capable of holding 450 pupils, with sufficient floor space to provide 15 square feet per pupil. This was threo squaro feet more per pupil than the Education Department's requirements. Tho Assembly Hall, part of the main building, contained 2172 square foot, and will allow seating room for the whole school. Detached from the main building, continued the chairman, were threo separate boarders' homes, containing 80 open-air cubicles apart from bed and sitting rooms, capable of accommodating 120 boarders, teachers and house mistresses. Thoso houses were to be known as:— " Melrose House," Dunblane House and Elgin House. Adjacent to these houses was tho refectory, a spacious building containing a dining hall that would accommodate 150 pupils. The grounds were now being laid out, added Mr. Robertson, and the directors were aiming at having everything in order for tho opening of tho college on February 18, 1925. Tho date of tho oflicial opeuing had not been fixed.
