MATAMATA COUNTY.
THE LOAN DIFFICULTY.
COUNCIL NOT UNHOPEFUL.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
PUTAKURU. Friday. The Matamata County Council met at Tirau to-day.
The chairman, Mr. J. W. Anderson, reported in committee on the steps taken to overcome the present deadlock in regard to the county loan scheme, and it was resolved that the matter be left in the chairman's hands. Subsequent discussion revealed that the members were not without hope that a way out would be found very soon. In connection with copies of proposed amendments to the Public Works Act and Highways Act received from the Highways Board the council resolved to suggest that before being put to Parliament all such legislation should bo submitted to local bodies, likewise all regulations under existing legislation. The assistant engineer's appointment was made permanent, with a view to having all data, etc., ready for vigorously prosecuting the loan work when tho deadlock is overcome.
