DEFEAT OF TOOWOOMBA.
INCIDENT EVOKES CRITICISM.

The cricket match, England v. Toowoomba, was concluded yesterday. England made 394 runs (Hcarne, not out, 174; Tate, 94).. Toowoomba, in their first innings, scored 181 (Drew, 52). Freeman took six wickets for 48. Toowomba followed on, and in their second innings only made 87. Kilner took seven wickets for 36. England thus won by an innings and .126 runs.
A message from Sydney slates that the dismissal of Sutcliffo on the first day is causing considerable comment there. A bowler in running up to deliver a ball to Hearne stopped at the wicket and whipped off the bails while Sutcliffe was standing outside the crease. This action is adversely criticised by members of the English team. They state that in their long experienco of first-class cricket they have never seen such a« incident. A. C. Jones and A. J. Williams have been appointed umpires for the first test match, England v. Australia. THE FIRST TEST MATCH. AUSTRALIAN TEAM SELECTED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Herd. 11.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. Deo. 11. The Australian team to meet the English cricketers in the first, test match will be composed of the following players:— Collins (captain), Bardsley, Oregory, Mailey, Oldfield, Hendry, Ponsford, Kellaway f %, Richardson, V. Richardson, and Taylor, with Andrews as twelfth man.
