THE SOUTH ISLAND.
A MAYOR'S DISAPPOINTMENT.
URGES SEPARATE GOVERNMENT.
[BY. TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] CHEISTCHURCH. Thursday. Speaking at a meeting of the Canterbury Industrial Association the. Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. J. A. Flesher, said he" regretted that the City Council had not been successful in attaining its goal in the Waimakariri hydro-electricity scheme, but he firmly believed it would pay the people of Oiristchurch handsomely to pay for that scheme out of their own pockets. Some people thought he was " a bit mad " when he advocated a South Island Parliament, but he said again, with a full sense of responsibility, that the South Island would never get its fair share of development till they had their own Government of the South Island. They must present a united front.
