THE RANGIRIRI HILLS.
MOTORIST'S SPEEDY RUN.
IMPROVEMENT OF THE ROAD.
The roads were in splendid order when a Jewett motor-car made a splendid run over the Rangiriri Hills last Friday. A speed of 45 to 55 miles over the hills was easily maintained,' the actual run across from the foot of the hills to the Rangiriri Hotel taking just half an lioir. To remind one of the past, however, a warning note must be sounded, as there are about a dozen nasty holes still in the road, but the. . unfinished stretches . are really admirable, and one get's an idea of what it will be like when it is finished.
The car was pushed along at a fair pace, and the following times were recorded:— Left city at 10.55 a.m.; passed Otahuhu, 10.17 a.m.; Papatoetoe, 10.24 a.m. ; Mannrewa, 10.33 a.m.; Papakura, 10.43 a.m. Orury, 10.48 a.m.; Ramarana, 10.55 a.m. ; Bombay. 11.1 a.m. Pokeno, 11.14 a.m.; Mercer, 11.20 a.m.,' commencement of Rai.giriri Hills, 11.30 a.m. ; Rangiriri Hotel, 12 noon; arrival at Ngaruawahia, 12.30 p.m. The car was driven part of the way by a well-known Aucklander, Mr. Cle.u Ah Chee, and Mr. H. O. Wiles.
