CAE STRIKES A BANK.

TWO PASSENGERS INJURED.

OTOROHANGA. Monday.

A motor accident, involving Otorohanga residents, took place yesterday. Mr. £. T. Gorton, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Atkinson, was returning from along the Main South Road, about five miles from Otorohanga, when he overtook a two-seater car driven by Mr. Peak. Reaching • a short descent, with a bad hole at the foot, Mr. Peak slowed down, and Mr. Gorton had to either , run into the rear of the front car or. attempt, to pass. He chose the latter alternative, but unfortunately tho hole in the road threw the steering gear out, and "the car bumped violently into a bank. Mrs. Atkinson, who was riding in front, was badly cut on the chin by the wind-screen and was thrown out of the car. She suffered severe shock and bruises. Mr. Atkinson, who was sitting on the back seat, was thrown across tho car, striking the wind-screen. He sustained scalp wounds, a deep cut on the forehead, and was 1 bruised. , The car was badly damaged.

Mr. Peak and the two ladies with him rendered all assistance possible. Dr. Nicholson was telephoned for, and after ibe had rendered first aid and ascertained that no bones were broken, the sufferers were conveyed to Otorohanga, where they received surgical attention.
