NATIONAL GAMES.
Sir, The national sport of England is not football or cricket, but cycling. A London paper discussing this two years ago, said: "On any fine week-end in spring, summer, or autumn, traffic censuses show there are about three million pleasure-taking cyclists on the splendid roads of Old England, touring, club-rid-ing, racing, and cycle camping. Association football and cricket, each with about a hundred thousand plavers, . are far behind. ' Rugby, with its five thousand (in England), is a mere speck in the ocean of sport. And the cyclists are rapidly increasing. Whole armies of ladies, middle-aged and young, ride cycles. Members of Parliament are soliciting their votes, and indeed they are helping to keep the motorists within bounds. M.
