SOIL FOR TOMATOES.
The Internationa] Institute of Agriculture, dealing with the prevention of disease in tomato seedlings, advocates the sterilisation of the soil with Cheshunt , Compound. This compound contains 2oz. of copper sulphate and lloz. of ammonium carbonate, reduced to a fine powder and thoroughly mixed. The mixture may be stored in a dry state in an air-tight receptacle, without which it gradually loses ammonia and become less potent. Hie dry mixture should lie stored for twenty-four hours in a tightly corked glass; or stone jar before using.
