WEATHER OBSERVATIONS.
THE ISLAND STATIONS.
SOLAR RADIATION INSTRUMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT. WELLINGTON. Monday. At a meeting of tho Apia Observatory Board of Advice this morning, it was rioted with satisfaction that the meteorological observations in tho South Pacific Islands are now satisfactory correlated and published, and it is anticipated that valuable deductions will bo mado from the combined reports from the stations on the various islands. In this connection tho efforts of the New Zealand Government received cordial mention at the International Geodetic and Geographical Union held at Madrid in October. At that meeting several publications from the Apia Observatory were presented and discussed.
Tho director of the observatory has reported that a solar radiation measuring instrument, presented by the inventor, Dr. Gortzvnski, has been installed at the Apia Observatory. The measurement of solar radiation is ono of tho most important elements in connection with agriculture, and it is considered unfortunate that such measurements are not made in New Zealand, where they would, no doubt, be of value in connection with agriculture and crop production.
