ECONOMICAL COOKING.

EFFICIENT GURNEY APPLIANCES.

The evolution in Canada of gas stoves, suitable for New Zealand conditions, has for some time occupied the attention of manufacturers who have realised tha>t certain alterations and modifications have been necessary to meet colonial requirements. With* that object in view, the gas stove manager, of the Gane Importing Company, Mr. S. F. Talbot, has just returned from a four months' visit to Canada and the United States, and is able to announce that, as the result of exhaustive tests, coupled with a sound knowledge of New Zealand conditions, and requirements, a gas stove has now been evolved which should be eminently suitable for use in this country. The manufacturers aro the Gurney Foundry Company, of Canada, for which the Gane Importing Company are sole agents in New Zealand. A Fact that, in itself, should be a guarantee of quality, is that the Gurney Company is an absolutely British concern. It employs over 4000 men, and has the additional backing of 75 years of operation, during which time its appliances have become more and more widely recognised for quality, utility, and economical installation and operation. Moreover, it is the largest concern of its kind in the British Empire. A testimonial to the worth of its products lies in the fact that the company contracts for heating and cooking apparatus for the Canadian Government. Further, some of the largest, hotels in Canada and the United States have Gurney products installed. Included among them are the Waldorf-Astoria (New York), the Vancouver Hotel (Vancouver), the Mount Royal (Montreal), and ihe Biltmore Hotel (Los Angeles). In the latter building, the company's products were so extensively used that the total cost, of them exceeded £40,000. These few facts amply testify to the merit of the company's wares. The utmost thought has been expended in the devising of the improvements which have beeu carried out to the new stove. Among the features is the handy griller on the top. The inconvenience of cold and semi-cold plates is avoided, by the ample space left for plate warming underneath the burners, while, of great importance is the fact, that the inside linings of the stove are of enamel and easily detachable. This ensures a strictly hygienic interior, as a complete cleansing is a matter of only a few minutes. Numerous other improvements which make for efficiency and congenial cooking for the housewife arc embodied in the new designs. While specialising more in domestic cooking equipment, the Gurney Company, through their New Zealand agents, the Gane Importing Company, of Wyndham Street, offer to instal apparatus for any type of establishment where cooking is carried on from the moderate outlay of £6 up to the most elaborate hotel equipment. A gas stove, especially suited to New Zealand conditions, and at a moderate price, having been evolved, the ;,ews should be exceptionally welcome to busy housewives and others. In add; ion to the agency for stoves, Mr. Talbot brought back other important agencies, including one for enamel table tops. These will doubtless prove popular. The enamel tops are of good appearance and quality, and aro both hygienic, and of value as a labour-saving device. Every housewife must recognise their absolute superiority over a wooden surface, which is not only unhealthy, but almost impossible to keep free of stains. The Gane Importing Company are also sole agents for the Renfrew Refrigerating Company's Ice Chests. The semi-tropical conditions of an Auckland summer fully warrant the initial outlay occasioned, and it is decidedly an advantage to have pure, fresh food and milk. Such are almost impossible during summer months under ordinary conditions. A shipment of stoves of all designs is expected to arrive at Auckland on Saturday, November 15. Those stoves may then be inspected at the premises of the acrents. the Giine Importinc Company, in Wyndham Street. Mr. Talbot, manager of the stove department, will lie pleased to cive advice on any matters concerning cooking apparatus of all types. Those who are in doubt as to any matter of the kind will find him n readv and competent adviser. In addition to gas stoves, mentioned above, the Gurney Foundry Company manufacture a full range of electric stoves, coal and wood ranges, and hot water heaters for gas and coal, which the Gane Comnany will bo pleased to demonstrate.—Advt,.
