THE MEAT MARKET.

SOUTH AMERICAN SHIPMENTS.

The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received a cablegram from its representative at Buenos Aires. South America, advising the following shipments to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ended November 1. from Argentine and Uruguay:—l72,77s quarters of chilled beef, 11,221 quarters of frozen beef, 24,146 carcases of frozen mutton. and 33.877 carcases of frozen lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the same period totalled C 0.558 quarters of frozen beef iind 12,108 carcases of frozen mutton.

Cargoes firmed themselves 3d on American advices. Grain b 1 an unnamed steamer duo in January sold at 62s 3d. Parcels are firm, with fair business at advances of from 3d to Gd. Parcels by the Belfast Maru sold at 61?. Chicago wheat quotations are as follow:— December, 1 dollar 43 7-8 cents: May, 1 dollar 50 1-8 <'ents; July, 1 dollar, 34 5-8 cents.

I J. C. WILLIAMSON, LIMITED. J _J. C. "Williamson, Ltd., report a net profit oi £02,277 for the year ended June 30. An income of £121.883 was derived from seasons, and tours (less expenses), and £50,209 from others sources. A dividend amounting to £18,750 was paid , in May, and preference share interest to June 30 took £1358, leaving £42,169 to be carried forward. Of £26,398 brought forward from the previous term, £18.750 was paid in dividends and £7643 transferred to reserve. The company holds £396,353 in war loans and shares ; in other companies, and £005.448 is taken j into account for properties, rights, goodwill, j etc.

ABRAHAM, WILLIAMS, LIMITED. ! The twenty-third annual meeting of shareholders in Abraham, Williams, Ltd., is to be held at "Wellington on November 12. The directors' annuul report shows the net profit, after providing for land tax nnd income i tax, ampunts to £20,773, to which has to be added the sum brought forward last year, £2955 7s 6d, total £23,729 Is lid. MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE. There were increasing supplies of field produce and some varieties of fruit at the Auckland markets yesterday. Supplies of strawberries have been improving during the week, and yesterday's prices were from Is to 3s 6d a box, according to quality. The fruit is of all grades. Good supplies of new potatoes came to hand, whilo there were fair ! marketings of dairy produce and poultry. FRUIT. ; Sturmer apples sold at 14s to 13s a case, i 1?. Barry pears were at 9b to 14s, with good ! quality Nellis pears at 14s to 15s, inferior quality, 10s to 12s. Strawberries sold at Is to 3s Od a box, according to quality. Prices for hothouse tomatoes were from 9d to 2s 6d a and for lemons from 5s to 14s. Gooseber *es were marketed in increased supply, selling at lis to 14s. Loquats sold at 5s to 10s, and Island tomatoes at 20s to 295. For American apples, prices were from 20s to 20s, and for pines, from Hs to 17s. Repacked oranges realised 28s to 295, FIELD PRODUCE. New potatoes were in good supply! The ; pick of prime lots brought from 2d to 2Jd 1 a lb, with others from lid to lid a lb. | Inferior grades were from 3s to 4s 6d a bag. Kumaras sold at 12s a cwt., and onions at 83s a case. Cabbages and cauliflowers were ' marketed in heavy consignments, the former i bringing 6s to 9s a sack, and the latter 3s to 9s a sack. Cabbages on benches realised 2s to 4s 6d a dozen, and cauliflowers on . benches from 2d to 8d each. Prices for hothouse cucumbers were from 6s to lis a dozen. There were good supplies of green peas, which sold at 4Jd to 6id a lb. Broad beans wero at 2d to 2Jd a lb, and French beanß at is to 2s 3d a lb. There were heavy stocks of rhubarb at 3s to 6s a dozen. Asparagus was at 8d to Is 3d a bunrib lettuce at 6d to 2s a dozen, and carrots, par- . snip, beet and turnips at Is to 2s a dozen. POULTRY. For most lilies, the supply was fair and the demand was keen. Last season's heavy ! cockerels reached from 4s 6d to 6s, with light ' cockerels from 3s to 4s 6d. Young cockerels I sold at 4s to 4s 6d. Heavy hens were at ' 4.8 to 5s 9d. and light hens were from 3s to 4s. Old ducks sold at 2s to 3s. Young table ducks reached from 5s to 8s r>d, and young light ducks from 8s 6d to 4s 6d. Prices for ducklings were from Is to Is 9d. Whito Leghorn day-old chicks sold at 5d to 9d, and Black Orpington chicks at 7d . to Is. DAIRY PRODUCE. Hen eggs wcro in fair supply. IJen eggs sold at Is 5Jd to Is 6d per dozen, with pullet eggs at Is 3d to Is 4d. Duck eggs sold at Is 4d to Is Od. CANTERBURY MARKETS. [BY TELEGRAM. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. Only a small amount of business has been done during the last few days, and owing to next week being Carnival Week, it is not likely that much will happen until after that period. There has been some demand for potatoes for prompt delivery, which are quoted at £6 ss, equal to £5 to farmers. Very little forward business has taken place during tho week. There is still some inquiry from Auckland for chatT, which on trucks is worth about' £7 15s to farmers. Ryegrass is being offered freely, but is not meeting with any demand.

PROPERTY SALES. auction sale of the Papatoetoe Gardons Estate was held yesterday at tho rooms of Samuel Vaile and Sons, Ltd. There was a very large attendance, and bidding started briskly. A number of sections wero sold at satisfactory prices, ranging up to £4 4s per foot frontage. Fourteen building sections at Morrin and Gorrie Streets were offerod by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., yesterday. Eleven of the sections were sold, the prices ranging from £3 to £5 a foot. A property of 20 acres at Beach Road, Papakura, whs sold for £55 an acre, and two quarter-acre sections at Papakura wero sold at £90 each. An orange and lemon farm on the Swansou-Henderson road was passed in at £450. A freehold farm of 143 acres, five miles from. Matamata, waß sold by William A. Home, Ltd., yesterday for £1500 cash. A building section at tho corner of Cook and Patea Streets, with a frontage of 61ft. to Cook Street, sold for £165 cash. A property known as Berkley Pork Estate. at Homai, will be offered for sale by auction on tho ground, by Mr. C. F. Bennett, this afternoon at 3.30 o'clock.
