YOUNG MAN SUCCUMBS ON TRAIN
THREE OTHERS SUSTAIN SHOCK.

A sensational motor-lorry accident occurred at Plimmerton at about 4 p.m. to-davj resulting in the death of the driver, Mr. Frank C. Garland, aged 21 years, youngest son of Mr. E. L. Garland, of Oriental Bay. Mr. Garland left Wellington in a motor-truck yesterday afternoon for Plimmerton, accompanied by Messrs. John Hymes, Gilbert Tinney and John O'Connor, all single men, residing at Plimmerton. Deceased vras driving on the return journey, when the lorry, for some unknown reason, left the road and fell down a steep bank, throwing the four occupants out. The truck landed on its wheels over a fence in a paddock some distanca below the level of tho roadway. The four men were badly bruised and shaken, but Mr. Garland suffered most. He was removed to Plimmerton for medical aid, Later, accompanied by Mr. Hymes, hti was put on tho evening train for Wellington, but succumbed to his injuries during the journey. Mr. Hymes this evening was still suffering from shock and bruises, as also were Messrs. Tinney and O'Connor, who remained at Plimmerton.
