AUSTRALIA'S INDUSTRIES.
OUTPUT OF £326,000,000.
Preference for Australian manufactures was'the subject of an address by Mr. F. R. Burley, president of "the Austra-lian-made Preference League, at a recent meeting of the Sydney Millions Club. He said that the secondary industries employed 412,0C0 workers, whose dependents comprised one-fourth of the people of Australia; their output was £326,000,0C0 —this, despite prejudice and indifference. The prejudice of regarding anything imported as something better was ingrained in the Australian. Preference must always be qualified by all things being approximately equal. And in nine out of ten purchases the Australian article was quite as good as the imported. The league was non-political, non-sectional, and non-profit taking. It was purely a national service league, out to do its best to serve Australia.
