YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE.
PROGRESS OF THE MOVEMENT
NEW BRANCHES IN COUNTRY.
The Young Citizens' League movement is commanding much interest in the Auckland district. The president cf the league, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., and the organising secretary, Mr. H. Stebbing, havo returned.from a trip through the Thames and Waikato districts, during which leagues were formed at Paeroa, Mataraata and Cambridge, and rolls of membership instituted in several primary and secondary schools. On Tuesday, 109 pupils attending the Paeroa District High School were initiated as Young Citizens, the ceremony being carried out by tho president of the Auckland League, assisted by the Mayor of Paeroa, Mr. R. Marshall, and the organising secretary. There was a large gathering of representative citizens present at the ceremony. At Karangahake } where a branch of the league was established last year in the school, a further number of the senior pupils were presented as candidates for , membership. Addresses, were delivered at the District High School at To Ar«ha, and it was announced by tho Mayor, Mr. R. Coulter, that it was the intention of local residents to form a Te Aroha League. A visit was paid to Waihou school, where the children were addressed. An influential league was formed wi.th Dr. Laurensen as president. An initiation was conducted at the Cambridge District High School, where 59 pupUs were presented. A league was later formed in Cambridge, with the Mayor, Mr. Priestly, as president. Before returning to the city, tho Auckland representatives visited Roto;0-rangi, where a number of boys and girls, were received as members. •
Messrs. Outten and Stebbing state that they were greatly impressed by the splendid efforts of the teachers in the various towns visited, on behalf of the children, and that they were greatly encouraged to proceed with the work on behalf of the younger generation.
