HOSPITAL TO BE BUILT.

VARIOUS LOANS PROPOSED.

[BS TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA. Saturday. Tho Paeroa Borough. Council met this week. The representative of the Thames Hospital Board, Mr. Brennan, reported that tho board had agreed to tho erection of a hospital In Paeroa, to cost about £8000. The plans had been approved and the necessary land taken by proclamation. The Mayor stated that the commissioner of Crown lands, Mr. Marsh, had earned tho thanks of the Paeroa people for the manner in which he had settled tho questions of taking and closing roads. To assist in the financing of the new hospital, said Mr. Brennan, certain credits at present in the Nurse Pennell Memorial Fund, and the Hauraki Comforts Fund would be handed over to tho Hospital Board. The consent of the Minister for Internal Affairs had been given. The district engineer of railways wrote stating that his department had definitely decided to carry out the formation and metalling of Taylor's Avenue. Tho estimated coat of the work is £4500. The Ohinemuri County Council wrote stating that it would consent to the re-cently-acquired, railway settlement area now in the county being transferred ifi&o the Paeroa borough. The necessary petition to give effect to the transfer was left in the hands of the Mayor to lodge and complete. The Mayor reported that final arrangements had been agreed upon whereby the Borough Council would take over tho Ohinemuri Library. The action of tho Mayor was endorsed. The Works Committee recommended that Coronation Street be formed and metalled, as this road would be the goods entrance to the new station. The work was estimated to cost £1200. The council decided to call tenders for the work forthwith. To enable the street improvements scheme to be carried out, the Works Committee recommended the immediate purchase of a road roller and wheeled 6COop, to cost about £1100, and this was agreed to. Several loan proposals were discussed, and it was agreed to take a poll of ratepayers asking for authority to_ borrow £6000 for water extension and improvements; also to borrow £2000 to advance to ratepayers for sewerage connections. Speaking in support of tho two proposals the Mayor stated that no rate would be necessary to repay the loan, as the water account profit would more than cover interest and sinking fund. The £2000 sewerage money would all be repaid by the borrowers. „ „„„„„ , A further proposal to borrow £2000 for the erection of a borough chambers was amended to include an additional £2000 to provide for additional rooms to be used for the library. Tho arrangements for the taking of the poll were left to the Mayor and town clerk to complete. Seven building permits were granted.
