RECIPROCAL TARIFFS.

In addressing the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce the president, Sir Mark Sheldon, said he regretted that the British Government had not sanctioned the Imperial Conference's preference proposals. He suggested that the Dominions, apart from Britain should arrange tor tariff reciprocity among themselves.

The Federal Government has decided to grant £10j000 to the West Australian Government for the relief of cases of severe hardship and distress resulting from the rinderpest outbreak.

NEW SOUTH WALES SCHOOLS.

SYDNEY. July 28.

In the past two years 167 new schools were built in the State. Three hundred were remodelled or added to, and 300 were renovated. The Minister for Education states that he will ask for an additional grant of £600,000.

BORROWING CO-ORDINATED.

MELBOURNE, July 28.

The Queensland, South Australian, and Tasmanian Governments have notified the Federal Treasurer, Dr. Earle Page, that they endorse the project agreed to by the Loan Council for the co-ordination of Commonwealth and State borrowing.
