The Stat© Department's officials are preparing to formally ask the Persian Government to tako immediate measures for the protection, ol American dtissera in that country from attacks and insults by the natives. It w understood that the latter have been hostile toward foreigners sinco the murder of the United States Vice-Consul, Major Irabrie, at Teheran. A message from the Persian capital states that the Persian Government's reply to the Diplomats' collective Note regarding the murder of Major Imbrie is non-committal. It excuses tho police for not firing in his protection on the . ground that such action would have farther infuriated the mob and led to \he Injury of non-participants. v:-< • Accusations have been mad© imputing the crime to British intrigue. The Persian Premier has, however, issued a notice threatening to punish * artyona spreading rumours calculated to create trouble between Persia and friendly nations. i;i ;■ One hundred persons. have been nrrested, including Xhalessizadeh, the ■ notorious anti-British priest-agitator, who is being deported.
