HUGE SILVER CUP STOLEN.
TAKEN FROM SHOP WINDOW. MIDNIGHT MOTOR RAID Thieves in a motor-car, early one morning at the end of May, stole the Essex Senior Football Challenge Cup, which »• reputed to be the most handsome Jxophy in England. It stands 3ft. high, and weighs 218oz. of solid silver, and is valued at £150, although its intrinsic value is stated to be about £25. It was on view in a jeweller's window. Mr. A. Bott, chairman of the Ilford Football Club and manager of the Ajax Co., related, how the cup was stolen. " I was going to bed at 12.20 a.m., when there was a crash of glass. Going downstairs I heard two more crashes. While my wife went to the telephone I rushed outside the house, and was just in timeto see a car disappearing towards London. It turned off to the left at a great pace, as though &oing to Ilford Broadway." The thieves were in such a hurry that they left the lid behind.
