FLIGHT THAT FAILED
AMBITIOUS NEGRO AIRMAN. FALL AFTER THREE MINUTES. NEW YORK. July 5. Herbert Julian, a West Indian negro aviator, to-day started in a hydroplane named the Ethiopia, with the intention of being the first to circle the Atlantic Ocean. He proposed to make the . flight back from Europe in company with the American airmen, who are at present crossing Asia, westward. Ten thousand negroes cheered Julian's start, but after flying for three minutes, the machine fell into the bay. Julian was rescued by the police boat and sent to hospital. He was badly injured.
