THEFT OF A BICYCLE.
TWO YEARS' PROBATION.
The theft of a bicycle valued at £5, belonging to George Jacks, was admitted by Arthur Vosper, aged 42 (Mr. Mays), before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday.
Counsel stated that accused had found the bicycle at low-water mark at Devonport Wharf on July 10, and being slightly drunk had not handed it over to the police, but had tried to sell it. Two years* probation was imposed, accused to abstain from liquor in the meantime.
ALLEGED THEFT OF PRESERVES. The theft of one tin of preserves, valued at 2s, was admitted by a seaman, Robert Whiteside, aged 37. Chief-Detective Cummings stated that the goods were portion of cargo which had been pillaged. Accused was remanded until to-morro\V for sentence.
