TEACHERS' APPOINTMENTS.
AGAINST SUPERSEDING.
DOMINION POLICY ADVOCATED.
The Auckland Education Board met yesterday, those present being Sir. E. C. Banks, chairman, Messrs. J. D. Mackenzie, W. J. Campbell, H. S. W. King, F. A. Snell, R. Sim, T. U. Wells, G. Brownlee, J. Patter son j A. Burns, and J. Boddie.
Some discussion took place regarding a motion standing in the name of Mr. V. H. Reed, and moved by Mr. Campbell in Mr. Reed's absence: "That no teacher shall be appointed to a position in any school over any other teacher holding a higher qualification." The general terms of the motion were approved by the board, which decided to recommend the department to amend the Education Act on the lines suggested, with a view to making this policy effective throughout the Dominion. A .special grant of £75 has been approved by the Minister for improvements to the grounds at the Belmont School. A grant for the acquisition of a school site of three acres at Kopuku (Mercer) and a grant for additional classrooms at Kohanga (Onewhero) were notified by the department. The board authorised the following appointments:—Headmasters: Mr. R. H. Paterson, Epsom; Mr. G. Barber, Horahora. Head teacher: Miss E. Bunker, Kakapuka. Sole teachers: Miss G. R. J. Atkinson, Honikiwi; Mr. K. H. O'Halloran, Te Pahu; Mr. C. R. Lovatt, Aranga; Mrs. M. C. Watt, Komata North; Mr. E. P. Bat-y, Matahurn; Miss G. E. Watkin, Taipuha and Waikiekie East; Mrs. M. Ewart, Waiotemarama. Assistant masters: Mr. A. E. Btone, Point Chevalier; Mr. J. A. McDonald, Mount Albert; Mr. A. B. Fordyce, Mount Roskill; Mr. F. G. Blackwell, Northcote; Mr. F. A. Long, Cambridge District High School; Mr. L. 0. M. Brown, Curran Street; Mr. C. L. Metge, Curran Street. Infant mistress: Miss I. M. Foote, Waihou. Assistant mistresses: Mrs. C. M. Roberts, Bayfield; Miss J. M. Sinclair, Richmond West; Miss H. G. Caldow, Waipu Central; Miss E. Minns, Ohaupo; Miss T. White, Papaknra; Miss C. M. Sinclair, Te Mawhai; Miss J. Scott, Thames North.
The following temporary appointments were also authorised:—Miss H. F. Plaw, teacher, Purerua and Te Tii; Miss D. M. Berryman, Silverdale; Miss A. V. E. Murray, assistant, Otewa. Committees are to be consulted regarding proposed appointments as follow:— Head teachers: Tapapa, Mr. W. A. Le Cocq; Wharepoa, Mrs. E. A. GaiL Sole teachers: Pollolc, Mr. L. 0. Morgan; Tairua, Mr. R. 8. McDonald; Muriwai, Mr. T. R. Birdsall; Pakeho, Miss V. Deroles. Assistants: Waihi East, Miss R. Bell; Ngararatunua, Miss C. Lupton.
