SEPARATE UNIVERSITIES.
DISCUSSED AT DUNEDIN. ATTITUDE NOT FAVOURABLE. TBT TELEGRAPH, —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The proposal to' abolish altogether the University nf Now Zealand and to substitute four separate universities came before the University Council this afternoon in the form of correspondence from Victoria College and Auckland University College. The chancellor. Dr. Cameron, said it would be a much more reasonable thing to try to remove defects in the work of the New Zealand. University than to seek to create separate universities in a small community like that of New Zealand. With reference to Auckland's request to Mr. Massey to appoint a commission on the matter, it was decided, on ' the motion of the chancellor, to write informing the Prime Minister that the council was considering the matter, and asking him to take no uteps in the meantime. A sub-committee was set tip to confer with representatives of the Professorial Board on the subject.
