Her Excellency Lady Jellieoe will be the guest of Mrs. Marmaduke Reth&H, oi Pahau Pastures, for tho North Canterbury hunt and the hunt ball at Culvarden. The date of the ball has been fixed for August 7, the hunt taking place on August 6 (states a Christchurch exchange).
It is many a day since skating parties have been "indulged in as near Christchurch as Homebush. During the exceptionally heavy frosts of tho earlier part cf last week, however, Mr. and Mrs. James Deans held a series of parties of this nature, and great was the fun and exercise enjoyed. For one evening the •young people from the neighbouring districts enjoyed skating by moonlight.
