KINDNESS TO ANIMALS.
The .Society for the Protection of Women and. Children and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports that the following have won prizes in the annual competition on \ " Kindness to Animals," promoted by the society:—Standards 1 and 2 • Alan Edward Crawford (Edendale school), 1; Ettie O'Neill (Parnell). 2; Dorothy Boydf (Vauxhall), 8; Leonore Pigott (St. Mary's High School, Ponsonby), 4; commended, John Seegar (Te Tora school, Waiuku). Standard 8: Margaret Schmidt (Grey Lynn school), 1: Ellen Kayea (Parnell), 2; Aline Aislabie (yauxhall),, 8; E. S. Putivain (Stanley Bay), I; honorable mention, D. Abraham (Paeroa District High Sohool), Mona MoWilliams (Parnell), Charlie Wetere (Huntly native school), special prize: Hami Makiha (Whakarewarewa native school), Isa Lindores (Huntly native school). Standard 4: Clara Sharpe, lj James R. Sharp, 51;.Paulino Florence Brooker, 8: Ellen N. Maodonald, 4 (all of Rotorua District High School) j honorable mention, Robert Tukehu (Banana : native school, BotoruaV. apeoial prize. Standard 5: Purvis Fengelly (Parnell Bchobl), 1: Kathrine M. Mays (Point Chevalier), 2; Ngaire Snow (Thames South), 8; Isabel Gow (Papatoetoe), 4; honorable mention, Noii Martina (Rakaumanga native school, Huntly, special prise), Connie McNeil (Coromandel District High Sohool), Ken Kelly (Fairfield sohool, Hamilton), Charlie Norman (Kereone sohool, Morrinsville). B. Bodgers (St. Joseph's school, Grey Lynn), Clyde Youngman, Parnell), Blanche Burnett (Vauxhall). This last essay would - have taken first place, had it not exceeded the maximum number of words by 86. Standard 6: Catherine Harpham (St. Joseph's Convent, Grey Lynn), 1: Graoe Collins (Maungawhau), 2; Miro Coad (South School, Thames), 8; Dorothy Towera (Paeroa), 4j honorable mention, Mary Barton (Rotowaro), Florence Chatfield (St., Mary's High School, Ponsonby), Bebecoa' Waitai Pita (Whangaruru native sohool, speoial prize), Florence Taylor (Fairfield school, Hamilton). Bebecoa Pita's esaay would have taken high place, but for exceeding the limit of words. Standard 7 and Forms 3 and 4: Mary Lenore Allen. Is Mary Warren, 2 (both of Epsom Girls' Grammar School): Agatha Devlin (St. Joseph's Convent School), 8; Jean Clyde Batlantyne (Epsom Girls' Grammar Sohool), 4; honorable mention, Kathleen Cooper (St. Joseph's School, Grey Lynn), Margaret Grace Chaplin (Epsom Girls' Grammar School), Margaret Glasson (Puahue school, To Awamutu), Molly Cowan, Leonora Dickenson, Beatrice Parson* (all of Epsom Girls' Grammar School).
