SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS.

EXCELLENT FINAL BOUTS.

The Auckland provincial amateur championship tournament was concluded at the Town Hall last evening, the eliminating rounds having been contested on the previous evening. There was a fairly good attendance, and some excellent boxing was witnessed in both semi-finals and the final bouts. Outstanding performances were those of N. McKnight, of Frankton, and R. Trowern, of Auckland, who won all their contests with knock-outs.

Messrs. F. Burns and M Moore officiated as referees, and Messrs. T. Sampson, R. Meale, K. Kelly, A. H. Gyllies, and J. Gillett as judges. Ply-weight Contests. F.Taylor, 7st. B£lb., v. D. Madden, 7st. 91b.—From the outset Taylor manifested superiority over his more youthful opponent in all-round work. Early in the second round, Madden was knocked out after having taken a good deal of punishment. J. Smith (Taumarunui), 7st. 7£lb., v. C. Oliver, 7st. B£lb.—The bout was of short duration, tho referee intervening in the first round and awarding the bout to Smith. Taylor and Smith met in the final. Smith boxed well and gamely, but Taylor was always in the lead and received the award. Bantam-weight Final. J. O'Sullivan, Bst. l£lb., v. V. Rickard, Bst. OJlb.—-The bantam-weight championship went to O'Sullivan owing to Rickard, who drew a bye in the eliminating round, not being able to make the weight limit of Bst. 21b. The pair boxed four rounds, O'Sullivan out-pointing his opponent. Feather-weight Boats. J. Callaghan, Bst. llAlb., v. C. Meehan, Bst. 9£lb. —The first two rounds were boxed at a great pace, both boys mixing matters freely. In the third they showed considerable weariness, but battled on gamely. Neither could land an effective punch in the last round. Callaghan received the verdict. D. Bst. 13£lb. v, J. Colledge (Waihi), Bst. 51b.—There was little to choose between the pair in the first round, very few clean blows landing. The second round was very similar, but there were some fan* rallies in the third, both scoring with body blows. At the end of the *mirth round Armishaw received the award. X ' In the final Armishaw. and Callaghan gave an excellent exhibition, Armishaw receiving the award. Light-Weight Contests. B. Nelson (Frankton), 9st. Bilb. v. M. Perryer, 9st. 10£lb. —There were some heavy exchanges in the first round, _ but Nelson was rather wild with bis right. Perryer used a snappy upporcut when in close. In the - second session Nelson plied a straight left to good effect, but found his opponent always ready to mix matters. The third and fourth were hotly contested, with Nelson always doing mthpr the better. Nelson received the award. ft. Trowern. 9st. SJtlb. v. W. Colledga (Waihi), 9st. 81b.—The bout lasted less than a round. Trowern had his opponent down three times with rights to the jaw. The referee stopped the contest and declared Trowern the winner. Trowern and Nelson contested the final. The first round was uneventful. In the second Trowern had his opponent down three times with heavy rights to the solar plexus. Nelson struggled gamely, but a right to the jaw sent him down again, and ther referee awarded the bout to Trowern. The Welter-weights,, E. Armishaw, lOst. 61b. v. F. G. Stanley, lOst, 51b.—There was much clinching in the first two rounds. In the third Armishaw did better, and scored well with a straight left. The fourth round was uneventful. Armishaw received the award. J. Fletcher, lOst. 21b., v. N. McKnight (Frankton), lOst, 41b.—There was some hard punohing in the first round, both boys landing heavily. Fletcher was down three times in the first round and was saved from being counted out only by the gong. The referee stopped the contest in the second round and declared McKnight the winner. The final was between McKnight and Armishaw. The former knocked out his opponent in the first round with a right to the jaw. Middle-weight Final. V. J. Parker, lOst. 111b., v. D. Mitchell" (Frankton), list. 3£lb.—The only clean blows in the first round went to the credit of Parker, who scored with straight lefts and hooks. In the second round Parker was thrown heavily by his opponent and dazed. Parker was given the decision on a foul. Oruiser-weight Title. C. Haydon, list, 111b.', v. G. Flynn, list. 10£lb. —After four closely contested but uneventful rounds, Flynn was declared the winner. M. Gibbons, list. 71b., v. E. Stewart (Thames), list. 9Jb.—Stewart knocked out his opponent with a right to the jaw early in the first round. The final was a very willing contest between Stewart and Flynn. There were some hard exchanges and Stewart knocked out his opponent in the fourth round. Heavy-weight Final. G. Dunster (Thames), 12st. 91b., v. W. McShane, 12st. 101b.—In the first round McShane appeared to advantage, using a left hook to head and body. Dunster did tho better work in the second and also scored well with a straight left in the third. Dunster was the stronger in the final round and received the award.
