JAPAN'S IMPORT DUTIES.
HIGHER TAX ON LUXURIES.
Router. TOKIO. July 7. The import duties on luxuries will be raised all round to 100 per cent, ad valorem under a bill introduced in the Diet. The purpose of -the measure is to place an embargo on luxuries rather than protection on home industries. The list of dutiable articles includes tea and other beveiages, liquors,' precious stones', woollens, silks, knitted goods, wearing apparel, cameras, gramophones, toys and'toilet goods.
