,:; A camphor wood chest containing about £60 worth of clothes and £573 x in money ™« stolen from Lo Sing, a Chinese engineer on -board the Admiralty tanker Nucula on June 6,' the day the vessel arrived at .Auckland.: v Although every endeavour has been made .by the local police to find the missing box a,nd money,, ; so far they have been unsuccessful. '' The detectives' work has been made difficult owing to the fact that all the crew of the Nucula except the master, officers and white engineers are Chinese, and only two of the Chinese crewman? talk English. It is believed the box Was thrown overboard after the : ; contents : were ; removed, and that the money is still on board the vessel. .; This is borne out by the fact ti at the Nucula. did not berth alongside:/the Sheerlegs Wharf ;at Devonport, where she is ■ now, until she had been in ; the stream 10 days. Except, for a • small i quantity*:of silver,; the stolen money was in notes.' <
The Nucula is X. under - charter to the New Zealand. Government .as an oil supply ship to H.M.S. Dunedin. She is to sail for Suva this afternoon to replenish the warship's oil; bunkers ;at * the Fijian port. ' . *' -
