RIVAL FOOTBALL CODES.
r Sir,—The Rugby Union is to be congratulated on its initiative in endeavouring to arrange a'Vmatch with a Wellington team on August 16. Why should the Rugby Union hold a brief for any other code of football ? All codes are striving hard to draw the crowds, and I consider that the union should, at all times, irrespective of other fixtures, do its duty to its regular supporters, and provide the best matches it possibly can. Even were Rugby postponed, it would not necessarily indicate that Soccer would draw its patirons./ A few would prefer League others, like myself (who, 1 believe, are in th» majority), , dislike League as.;.'much as they dislike Soccer, and therefore would stay r home and dig the garden. Still, others would consider- * that there is something radically wrong somewhere when a team of Chinamen is imported at great ex--j)ense to bolster up England's national game. Rugby Union is our national game, and I earnestly trust long will remain so. % -' New Zealakdeb. .:;
