Sir,—"Safety First" opera up ...» question, which.* should have been dealt with long ago. Daring the' last; tE?es months . I have witnessed not less than a score of hafr-breadth escapee »fc the r , top .of Symonds Street, including two 'in which the ladies were actually grazed by passing motors. Rightly or ; wrongly, : the • ladie3 in particular'look upon the inside of the safety particularly where they are double, as ;at Symonds Street— as & safe ; place. ,In reality it is the most , dangerous spot in the street,. for whereas ,; a motorist, during crush hours, will thread- ' his way, mora or less, carefully; through ■■>, the crowd in the street proper, the motorhog, to gain perhaps ten seconds, rushes ■::■■„. along the tram' lines at from 10 to 12 \ miles an hour. ;It must be legal to do so, ; or our policeman on duty a lew yards : away would stop i it. Nevertheless, it is , y highly dangerous, and should be prohibited. ''\ : ::' : 'y- : ; W.I.C.
