HENDERSON LOANS.
I Sir,—Ballots are popularly presumed to be methods of gauging opinion. Mr. B. Hart, admits that the grouping of the main highways scheme along with local proposals is avowedly directed, by the Henderson Town Board to leave ratepayers no choice. To assume, "if ; the concrete road had been put in a separate issue all those living on the main road would undoubtedly have voted for it, but might not have cared a jot about the other roads, and vice versa," is taking a' poor view of local vision. Our property,, lies distant a mile from the main nigh* way; with others similarly situated we ! realise the proposed highway will benefit us as well as the man living on, the road.. Our social and economic Relationships are so ; interwoven that all must realise that 1 quick aiyj safe road transit to and from - , our suburban area is vital to the development, welfare and progress of > the ' whole community. The highway scheme, undertaken by expert business and engineering skill,, with local . interest costs equalising present road maintenance charges, commends itself as a commercial; proposition. The crux, of the J, whole; matter, Sir. Hart" voices, "whether the V members :of the Henderson Town Board possess the con- : fidence of the people." --We agree; let: the board ! separate the- two issues • and • gain : a true verdict of public opinion. L - *' . , Ratepayer. I
