GOVERNMENT REPORT*
< The Government meteorologist reported last night as follows: —Present indications are for strong ■ north-west to southwest winds, weather cloudy and unsettled, with further rain probable generally snow on the higher levels and colder conditions following. Barometer unsteady, but rising everywhere soon.
HERALD SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for .24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening: Cloudy and unsettled ' weather is likely generally, with heavy showers under the influence of the new disturbance, Antarc-* tic in character, centred -in the south. Northerly to westerly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing, and squally at times. Thunder and hail probable in western districts. Seas rough. ■ ' Barometer, midnight—29.B3in. j steady.
