ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES
YESTERDAY MORNING'S WORK.
BY ARCHER. The weather was fine for training operations at Ellerslie yesterday,,. and' there w;i3 a fair .number of enthusiasts present ;to "witnesa the work. The No. 1 crass was available and was freely used. The steeplechase course was also open and a number of horses were sent over the hill. As a result of the recent rains, the various tracks were very heavy. ' !'• J.' ■V'"' NO. 1 GRASS. - Gala Day was slightly in advance of Finnote at the conclusion of ' six furlongs in lm 21 2-ss. the latter having much the worst of the weights.. Smoke Concert defeated Winkie's Wheel by four lengths over five furlong% in lm 9s. The following times wore recorded over four furlongs: Master O'Rorke. 55; Constellation, 56 l-ss; Namutere, 51 l-ss; Emerald Hill,, 3-ssi and . Golden Glass, 56 l-ss.
Polonett was about a length in front ol Pret.tyman -at the conclusion of five furlongs in lm 7 3-ss. • Both geldings worked well.
Sunny Roe comfortably defeated Hircino over four furlongs in 53 2-ss. . Pompey and ' Tactful moved attractively over SGven furlongs in lm 31 l-ss. finlsning together. < Pavo, Charlady, and Loyal Irish placed five furlonss behind in lm 7 2-ss, Pavo being a shade in front at the finish. Archibald ran five furlongs in. lm 7 4-3s. Knighthood comfortably beat Tall Timber over six furlongs in lm 22 2-ss. . - Comical was much better than Diamond Ring over ' a circuit in lm 59 3-ss. Musketoon was swinging along for seven furlongs in lm 38 4-ss. . The imported horse looks well. Sleepy Sol and Owen spurted three furlongs in 41s. Spoony and Passionate were timed to run the last four furlongs of. their task in 54 2-53. • : , , Nocturne and Queen of the Earth were bracketed for four furlongs in 54 2-ss. Ruby Ring taking 55s over the same ground. ■ Frowning Beauty covered the final five furlongs of her work in lm 10 2-ss. Tintoretto taking lm 12 2-5s for a, similar portion, of his task. Hevsler could have improved upon 55 1-5 for four furlong 3. . . ' \v hite Comet was going nicely for three furlongs in 42 2-ss. . . Santonio strode alonsr for . six furlongs m lm 23 2-ss, and looked to be doing his work well at the finish. . . Prince Chnrleroi led Electrode over five furlongs in 'lm 9 2-ss. Uralla and Gold Rain were ■ timed to from the five-furlong .disc in lm 8 3-ss. with th« former slightly in front at the finish. Rafforty and Royal Fame " encompassed a round in 2m 7 3-ss. Steel Bar tripped over four furlongs in 555, Miss Rosa occupying 56 l-5s over the same distance. Soliform easily accounted for Gold Jacket over six furlongs in lm 24 l-sa. - Mary Bruce and Rcsinante did a strong seven furlongs without being extended. A large number of •others worked, including Bay Dijhtcn. Kin<* Multifid. Dtbwbridge, Praiseworthy, Shebang. To Tahi, Silent King, and John Dix. ■ \
THE SAND. A number of horses did tasks of various kinds on the sand, .including" Freshman, Pittsworth, Brown Heath, Rehutai, Anxious Moments, Maori Henare, Bright Light, and Landbird. THE. JUMPERS. Elstow (A. Rutherford) and Savory (H. Burt) did a round over tour hurdles in very satisfactory style. The former afterwards worked sounaiy on the crass. First Bom (R. Bagby), Lochson (J. Kaan), and Brigadier Bill tA. McDonald) made an excellent showing over four hurdles. - They all. fenced well, especially tho . first-named pair, and were in a bunch at the finish: Kashmir, (M. Corke.ry) and Capstar (G. C. Young) jumped tour hurdles without mistake. _ Mahgoloire (T. Chaplin) and Boomerday (A. Rutherford) were associated in- a. schooling bout over four hurdles. The former jumped quicker than his "companion, buff both fenced well. - * Omahu (L. G. Morris) and Black Art (A. McDonald) were sent over the sodwall, double, and stonewall, both -fencing in good style, though Black Art jumped very high.; They afterwards galloped seven furlongs on the grass in lm 41 3-ss, Omahu finishing some lengths in -front. ■ Lady Kei'man (R. Nixon) and . Jolly Princess (G. C. Young) cleared four hurdles safely. Gold ' Kip (S. Walls) and Archie (A. Rutherford) went over the pony ' hurdles twice,. afterwards covering a circuit of the grass in 2m 11 2-ss. / . • * Tinokaha (Ayrea) jumped four hurdles and gave only a moderate display.' He subse- ! quently did strong work on the flat with tycorax. . ■.y . Miraiwhangata (G. C. Young) ana Vice Versa (E. Stanway) led Husker (T. L. Rtiefl) over four hurdles in dashing style, Husker giving only a fair .exhibition. Indemnity (J. Mills) and Peter . Ainans (T. L. Reed) were companions in a schooling bout, the former jumping . seven hurdles and the latter eight. It was a satisfactory exhibition. ; x Uncle Ned (L. Scott) made a fair showing over six hurdles. * _ G.tenotus (E. Stanway) and Vociferate (E. Rao) were seen to advantage in a tour over the sodwall, . double, and . stonewall. They then joined Esplanade and did strong worn on the sand. , ' ' ■ Welcom-a Rain (W. Rowe) and Irish Jig (C. Mason) ! went over four hurdles in satisfactory fashion, while Mania (W. - Rowe) and Ohiti ' (W. Easton) schooled over two pony hurdles and four big ones. ~ ■ ! Scottish Knight (J. Mills). : Silverton (E. Man way), Second Choice (N. Rowe), and Oakleigh (R. S. Bagby) went out together for a round of ; the steeplechase fences, but the two last-named met with mishaps. . Oakleigh fell at the sodwall (first fence),' and went round riderless-jtill crossing the stonewall at the foot of I,ho hill, when ho. cam«i up the t straight oa the course •proper, Second Choice fell at the first fence on thehill, but was remounted and completed hi» task without ; further mishap. : cattish Knight and Silverton both gave good dia■playy. . . Subsequently Oakleigh , was ivm. mounted, and accompanied f, Hyginas (J. Mills) and Extract (E. Sae) over four hurdles, which they jumped well. Starkey (A. Rutherford) flew four hurdles without mistake. • - , Maira (Mr. Carey) and Passin' Through (P. Webby) gave a good display over a round of the steeplechase fences. Hokemai (A. McDonald), Totara Jack (R. Conway), and Never Despair (W. Rowe) were all responsible for good fencine in -a round of the steeplechase fences. The two firstnamed led the way and finished together. Bustler (W. Keepa) led Sir Roseberry (A. McDonald) and Dick (T. L. Reed) ov<»r a round "of the steeplechase fences. Thoy gave . a good exhibition, Sir Roseberry pleasing very much for a first time ' over Ellerslie. '
■ ARRIVALS. The latest arrivals include Bright Light, Irish Jig, Landbird, Bonny Canny, Ditto. Manana, Rehutai, Cold Steel, . Passin' Through, and Waiotoma.
