DRAFT OF BILL APPROVED.
A scheme of civic financial support for the Auckland War Memorial Museum is embodied in a draft submitted to the City Council last evening of a bill to be presented to Parliament during the forthcoming session. ...... ;,-
I Voluntary contributions to the museum V fund total £160,000 and the estimated \ cost of the building is £185,000. .The., bill authorises the council to subsidise the ' fund with the amount required. to complete the erection of the museum. The revenue of the Museum Trust Board being insufficient to maintain the museum - it is proposed that the City Council should contribute annually to the cost of upkeep. >• For this purpose the council may levy a rate not exceeding one penny in the pound. Authority to expend money on the equipment of the museum - is also included in the bill. Another matter dealt with in the measure 'is the raising of '.' a consolidated loan of £847,600, the aggre- f gate balance of loans not raised. The council approved the draft of the bill and decided to ask the Hon, C J. Parr to take charge of the measure in the House of Representatives. ' : ~
