SAWMILL WORKER'S WAGES
JUDGMENT FOR PLAINTIFF.
• A sawmill worker's claim for wages was heard before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Plaintiff was William John Brown, of Auckland (Mr. Butler), and defendants were the Waitakerei Timber Company, Ltd. (Mr. Anderson), and B. L. Brown, sawmiller, of Waitakerei (Mr. Field). Plaintiff stated that he had been employed by B. L. Brown, and that at the latter's request he had run the cookhouse at the sawmill at Waitakerei. He claimed to recover £114 9s in respect of wages and board. Evidence was given by the manager of the timber company to the effect that the company had a contract with .■ 8.■.'.:• L. Brown, but that it had never engaged plaintiff. . • The magistrate held that there could be no claim against the company, ; but gave judgment for the amount claimed against the defendant Brown. . Mr. Anderson intimated that the company proposed to pay plaintiff some portion of his wages. • y '■■■'
