CRUISE OF THE VISION

ARRIVAL AT NUKUALOFA.

HEAVY WEATHER ON YOYAGE

HOVE-TO FOR 30 HOURS.

The 18-ton Auckland-built schooner yacht Vision arived at Nukualofa, Tonga, a fortnight ago, after a passage of 17 dss*s from Auckland. Mr. James Reid, the owner and skipper of the little vessel, has his wife and certain members of. his family with him, and it is his intention to make a long wandering cruise tErongh the Islands.

Brief particulars of the vessel's faring on her run to the Island port were supplied yesterday by an officer of the Tofua, who saw the yacht and her company at Nukualofa. Mr. Reid reported that he had encountered heavy weather on the run, and was on one occasion hove-to for 36 hours. Ho reported also that his craft had behaved very well, and added that he had decided to make a visit later to the New Hebrides. When the Vision lef_t Auckland he had in mind going to that particular group, where, as a youth he had spent some time. But he had made no definite plan, and the fact that the New Hebrides are now to be included in the cruise is a clear indication that ho is well satisfied with his vessel, which he constructed singlehanded. The whole party were fully 'enjoying their stay at Nukualofa, and "intended to spend a month there. Then they would visit Haapai, Vavau and probably other points in the Tongan Group, with possibly a visit to Samoa shortly after. The distance between Auckland and Nukualofa is 1098 miles, and Mr. Reid anticipated doing the run in a week or a fortnight. That he exceeded his estimate is doubtless due to the bad weather encountered.
