A scheme for the heating of the Hobson Street Baths, involving the use of one of' the boilers in the Hobson Street Power Station, was recently put into operation/? the closing of the power plant having threatened the continuance of the baths during the winter months. "Phis scheme, however, has proved a failure, according to a statement made by the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, to the City Council' last *s evening. Mr: Gunson - explained the method 3:ad proved insufficient and futile, but the city crrgi||er and the tramways engineer were now working on an ■_ alternative l scheme, which, it was felt, would over-'] come th<» difficulty. '_"']; A suggestion that the City Council should consider the possibility of installing turkish baths at the Hobson Street Baths, made recently by Mr. •T. Bloodworth, was reported on by the Parks Committee. The report stated tsie committee was of opinion that such an installation would mean the entire remodelling and rebuilding of the front of the baths and, further, that the site was inadequate for the par-; pose, ;in conjunction with the ordinary ; provision of swimming facilities for both sexes. ; ' ; - ; ■ ;•';•. , - , ' :S
Mr. Bloodworth asked for permission to have' the matter referred back, and this was agreed to. .'
