SHORTAGE OP TRUCKS.

DELAYS TO STEAMERS.

TIMBER AND OTHER CARGOES

An acute . shortage -of railway trucks on the Auckland wharves has resulted in the departure of some steamers being delayed. . . .

The explanation given by the Railway Department is that the cargo of six large steamers had to be trucked and that very heavy shed traffic, necessitating the use of about 200 waggons daily, was being experienced. A large quantity of poles and sleepers which wore left on the waterfront owing to the railway strike must now be removed. The steamer Omana is discharging telegraph poles and coal at the King's Wharf and there are 120 truck-loads of timber awaiting shipment by this vessel. It is expected that these trucks will be avail able to-day and in that case the posi* tion will be much relieved. The Tre morvah, at the King's Wharf, and Waihora, at the Central Wharf, are loaded with sulphur and phosphates, respectively, and thus require special truck ■ facilities. The Tremorvah will probably complete unloading - to-day, but the v*aihora, which has still 2500 tons to unload, is not expected to complete before Tuesday. Owing to the shortage, the Kakapo's cargo of guano from Walpole Island had to be • removed yesterday by motor and horse vehicles, or stored in the wharf sheds. ' Other cargo vessels being worked yesterday were the City of Birmingham, the Kaiapbi and the Ulimaroa. . '".' ""
