VICTIMS OF DIPHTHERIA.
PENNSYLVANIA DEATHS. TREATMENT ENFORCED. - By Telegraph— Association— (Received 9.55 p.ra.) A. and X.Z. NEW YORK. May 14. - In consequence of the ravages made ' by diphtheria among members of the sect known as the Faith of the Tabernacle at, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the State medical authorities entered the colony and forcibly administered antitoxin to affected persons. They established a quarantine, and are now hopeful 0 shortly checking the spread of the disease, which, within three weeks, has caused nine deaths. Five of the deaths occurred in one • family. The authorities endeavoured to persuade the mother to receive medical treatment for herself and her four surviving children. At first she declined but eventually submitted to treatment, though she refused to give her verbal consent. t • The health officers were obliged to use force upon several other patients. One of the latter offered opposition so strenuous as to oblige the officers to formally prosecute him in order to compel him to submit to treatment.'
