Results of the singles at Torquay were:— Gilbert (British Isles) beat Watson (Belgium), 6—4, 63, 61; Washer (Belgium) beat Kingscote (British Isles), 6—3, 6—2, 6—3. •
The British Isles v. Belgium matches in the first round of the Davis Cup contest commenced on Monday at Torquay with two singles. British Isles won one and Belgium one, Kingscote defeating Watson, and Washer beating Gilbert. In the doubles on Tuesday Godfree and Woosnam (British Isles)- beat Washer and Watson- (Belgium). - ,
